Hops Hallmark begin as Hops Stationery in Fairbanks, AK in 1979. Ken and Cynthia Henry had moved to the booming state of Alaska a few years before. The state was booming due to the construction of the Trans Alaska Oil Pipeline. The pipeline spans 800 miles from the rich oil reserves of the north slope to the northern most ice free port of Valdez, AK. The giant project ignited the state's economy and lured my parents to head north. Ken realized the demand for an office supply store (this is before Office Max and Office Depot stores) and thus he opened Home Office Product Supply (HOPS). As new business owners Ken and Cynthia decided to carry a line of cards which happened to be Hallmark. As time went on the Hallmark products began to dominate the stores and now we are Hallmark Gold Crown. There are currently have 4 stores in the chain with the original in Fairbanks and 3 locations in Anchorage (Dimond Center, Sears Mall and 5th Ave Mall).
